Foster School of Medicine hires director for its new Diversity Affairs Office
The new Office of Diversity Affairs at TTUHSC Paul L. Foster School of Medicine has recently been established to implement initiatives related to cultural competence and health equity as it applies to all constituents on the campus. Jessica Calderón-Mora has been hired as senior director for the new office.
The Office of Diversity Affairs will be assisting with the Cultural Competence Seminar to be held June 8 with topic presentations on patient care for the military population, managing of generational differences in the workplace, and challenges faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender patient population among others. Calderón-Mora has a master’s in public health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health (UT School of Public Health), San Antonio Regional Campus. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in public health at the UT School of Public Health, El Paso Regional Campus. Calderón-Mora worked with the UT School of Public Health for seven years as a research associate/project director on behavioral intervention research related to cancer among Hispanics. She then joined Paul L. Foster School of Medicine to assist with the Society, Community & Individual medical student course, as well as assisted with a colorectal cancer project with the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
