Del Sol Medical Center had an open house and ribbon cutting April 5 for its Baby Café, located at 2200 Lee Trevino inside building 2, suite A. The Baby Café helps mothers with breastfeeding in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. This is the fourth Baby Café to open in the Paso del Norte region.
El Paso’s first Baby Café was opened in 2009 jointly by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, University Medical Center of El Paso, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation and the Texas Department of Health. It was the second licensed baby café in the United States when it opened its doors.
The region’s second Baby Café opened in August 2011 in Ciudad Juarez in the Sede Hospital General de Zona No 6 Cd (Pronaf Center). It was the first of its kind in Latin America and modeled after the El Paso Baby Café, which is currently located inside the TTUHSC Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, 415 E. Yandell.
The region’s third Baby Café was opened by Las Palmas Medical Center in January 2012 inside its Women & Teen Pregnancy Resource Center in Northeast El Paso, 9201 Dyer St.
